Remember the good old days, when a crash mat half an inch thick would stop you from breaking your neck as you fell off the climbing frame.
The burn of the rope as you had managed to get to the top and your fear of heights meant you had no alternative but to release your grip and rope burn all the way back down...
Well, Hookstone Chase CP School were at it in style and I must say there were no broken necks or rope burnt hands. The children were given the challenge of exploring the equipment that had been put out, how they could move on the equipment, what they could perform on the equipment and how they could develop themselves and each other on different pieces of apparatus.
The reason behind this, as well as the thoroughly horrible weather, was to let the children develop their own skills, work things out for themselves and be proud of what they were able to put together, learn or teach to others. All in a fun and SAFE (emphasis on safe) environment.
We are all about ensuring safety, but we are also big believers of the children being able to risk assess themselves.
