We are delighted to begin another exciting academic year at Western Primary School, where the enthusiasm for PE and sport continues to grow. Mr Atkinson and Mr Sherwood are once again leading the PE provision across the school, bringing energy, expertise, and a strong focus on both enjoyment and progression.
This year, we have refreshed our curriculum structure by delivering PE to different year groups to create new learning opportunities, including swimming with a Sporting Influence every Friday. A particular highlight is that Mr Atkinson will now be joining the Reception PE lessons, supporting the youngest pupils as they begin to develop their confidence, coordination, and love for physical activity.
Across the school, lessons will continue to build on key areas of development, focusing on fundamental movement skills in Early Years and Key Stage 1, while pupils in Key Stage 2 will progress towards more sport-specific skills and tactical understanding. Every session is designed to be engaging, inclusive, and supportive of all abilities.
We are also very pleased to be working closely with new teachers this year, helping them to enhance their subject knowledge and confidence through our ongoing CPD programme. This collaboration ensures that PE remains a high-quality and consistent experience across all classes.
Western is once again part of the intra-school competition structure, following their excellent success last year. These events give pupils valuable opportunities to demonstrate their respect, determination, and teamwork, values that align perfectly with the school’s core ethos and approach to personal development.
